Meet the Day Camp Staff

The single most important aspect of any summer camp is the people who run it and who care for and mentor children day in and day out. At Fessenden, we’re proud to say we have some of the best. Our summer staff includes teachers, college and high school students, as well as specialists who provide their specific expertise for activities. Highly qualified, superbly trained, and deeply compassionate, our people make Fessenden Day Camp the great place it is.

Meet our year-round staff

Rusty Paine, Director
(16 years at Fessenden)

Rusty has dedicated his career to giving children the best educational and recreational experiences possible. As far back as 2001, Rusty started working with the Fessenden Day Camp as a member of the pool staff. He became the Aquatics Director in 2004 and the Director of our Day Camp in 2013. A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Rusty lives on campus with his wife Emily, who also works in the Day Camp, and their sons Brennan and Dexter.

In my free time…
I love to spend time with my family and go on adventures with them. I also enjoy running and playing sports, and am a passionate fan of the Patriots and football. Plus, I’m always on the lookout for a good movie or book.

My favorite book is…
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

What I love about camp is…
The broad range of activities, the amazing community of caring and innovative staff, and energetic and enthusiastic campers.

Leslie Forman, Camp Administrator
(2 years at Fessenden)

Before coming to Fessenden, Leslie  spent eleven years as the Office Manager/Administrator at Camp West Woods in Stoughton. She also worked as a substitute teacher and gymnastics instructor at the Academy Pre-School.  Prior to working in the camping field, Leslie was an Acquisitions Editor for a medical books publisher. Leslie has an M.A. from New York University, and a B.A. from Brandeis University.

My family…
I have two daughters, ages 7 and 10, who both enjoy attending the Day Camp.  My husband is an immunologist. We live in Medfield with our cat, Jasper.

My favorite movie is…
I love any movie musicals — a few of my favorites are Grease, Dirty Dancing, and the Sound of Music.

What I love about camp is…
How Fessenden allows children the opportunity to have fun, try new activities, make friends, and learn new skills.  The Day Camp’s offerings are diverse, giving campers exposure to activities that they might not otherwise have a chance to try.

Emily Paine, Special Projects Coordinator
(9 years at Fessenden)

Emily started her educational career teaching kindergarten in Connecticut and working as a Teen Group Counselor in a camp program. At Fessenden, Emily has been the Aquatics Director and the Assistant Director.  During the winter, she tutors Fessenden students in academic and study skills, and is also a dorm parent. Emily has a B.S. from Central Connecticut State University and a M.A.T. from Sacred Heart University.

My family…
Rusty and I met teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding in Connecticut, and he brought me to Fessenden! We have two sons, Brennan and Dexter.  Brennan will be attending the Day Camp for the first time this summer.

In my free time…
I love traveling to new places. Recently, I went to Jamaica and had a blast hiking up waterfalls!

What I love about camp is…
I love summers at Fessy to catch up with all the campers. It is so great seeing them grow from year to year!
