Skateboard Construction – Entering Grades 6 – 9

Skateboard Construction – Entering Grades 6 – 9

Handcrafting a skateboard is a deeply satisfying and rewarding experience. In this week-long camp, campers will use engineering and craftsmanship skills to transform raw materials into a high-quality, customized deck of their own design knowing it will last for years to come.

Each camper will work through the processes of design and production under the guidance of experienced instructors in the Ciongoli Center for Innovation. Campers’ designs start with creating a template and foam mold, then they form laminate veneer plywood to the mold through vacuum sealing. The final shaping leaves them with a pintail longboard or street deck ready to be customized with the aid of the vinyl and laser cutters. Each camper will be exposed to cornerstone principles in 21st century craftsmanship.

Features of Skateboard Construction include:

  • Instruction in use of woodworking tools and laser cutter
  • Creative design and customization of board
  • Time to test the new skateboards on outdoor surfaces
  • Daily free swim time
