Division Director

Position Summary:
Our mission is to empower campers and staff to form relationships, develop lifelong skills, and build confidence. There are four Division Director positions at Fessenden. Each Division Director is part of the senior camp leadership team and is responsible for the staff and campers in their own division ( 7-9 groups of 12-18 campers and 3 staff per group.) The Division Director is a seasoned supervisor and educator who provides leadership and mentoring to the division staff, and develops a relationship with the staff, campers, and camper families to ensure a safe, fun, and enriching experience in all aspects of camp. Division Director is the direct supervisor of the counselor staff in their Division. The position is for the full eight-week season (June 22 – August 14) including events and staff training before and during the camp season. Additional working weeks can be contracted in June and August. This is a seasonal position. The wage range for this position is $24.00 – $30.00 per hour.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience as an administrator in a camp or supervisory position working with children.
- Desire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage staff and campers in a cooperative, team-oriented camp atmosphere.
- Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities:
Division Program
- Direct, train, and coach staff in their camp division.
- Serve on the senior camp leadership team including developing training for all staff and leading Camp staff training before and during camp season.
- Assure appropriate staffing of groups and Camp activities.
- Design and lead Camp initiatives and events working with the senior leadership team.
- Develop and implement strategies to help campers and counselors be successful at camp.
- Meet weekly with division staff for planning and goal setting.
- Conduct formal evaluations of staff in assigned division mid-season and the end of the season.
- Regularly conduct informal evaluations of staff in assigned division.
- Regularly observe, communicate, and work with groups and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
- Proactively communicate with parents about successes and concerns regarding their child.
- Coordinate with Program Director to plan and implement program activities for your division each week.
- Coordinate with CIT director to schedule and teach CITs to assist with groups and teach counselors how to appropriately work with and educate assigned CITs.
- Send out weekly division communication to families.
Job Requirements:

The Science Specialist leads and actively engages in safe, organized, meaningful, enriching, and fun activity programs for campers ages 8-13 (age range for each activity varies). The program will focus on science related content.
The position is for the full eight-week season (June 22-August 15th) including events and staff training dates the week before camp starts. Additional working weeks in June and August can be contracted. This is a seasonal position. The wage range for this position is $21.00-$25.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications and Skills
- Training/certification and/or experience in leading science activities.
- Provide a portfolio of camp appropriate/related material.
- Demonstrated experience working with and leading children in a variety of recreational and/or educational activities related to science.
- Desire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage campers and work with other staff in a cooperative, team-oriented camp atmosphere.
- Demonstrated ability to photograph and document a variety of activities.
- Strong communication skills.

- Conduct regular cleaning and check of specialty area and equipment according to health and safety protocols.
- Participate in and assist in running camp events and initiatives.
- Meet/communicate regularly with direct supervisor regarding concerns, updates, challenges, and successes.
- Set a good example for campers and coworkers in all areas, including but not limited to health and safety, accountability, fairness, organization, punctuality, following the rules, and teamwork.

This role plays a key part in helping campers build friendships, gain confidence, and develop leadership skills through fun, interactive challenges.

- Previous experience in experiential education, leadership training, or outdoor team-building a plus.
- Experience working with children in camp, school, or recreation settings.

Lifeguard - Swim Instructor

Position Summary:
Our camp goal is that every camper leaves us a better, safer swimmer and more confident individual. This position is part of the Aquatic Staff team involved in all aquatic activities including swim lessons, recreational swim, and pool events. This position spends about half of the day teaching swimming and the other half lifeguarding, and ensures all swim activities are safe, positive, enriching, and fun in an inclusive atmosphere. Instructors are responsible for leading safe, skills based, and fun swim lessons for groups of 4-10 campers depending on age and swim ability. The wage range for this position is $20.00 – $21.00 per hour, depending on certifications and experience.
This is a seasonal position, running from June 22 – August 14. (Additional weeks in June and August can be contracted for interested parties)
Responsibilities:
- Using the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program, teach safe, fun, and meaningful swimming lessons.
- Evaluate campers in your swim lessons and complete necessary paperwork for records and families.
- Uphold all policies and philosophies of the Fessenden Day Camp.
- Follow and uphold all state and local health and safety regulations and guidelines and those set by the Camp.
- Work with various age and skill levels providing appropriate instruction and behavioral management.
- Be part of regular maintenance, cleaning, and check of pool areas and equipment according to health and safety
protocols. - Supervise all swimming activities and enforce pool rules.
- Teach and guide campers and CITs to participate successfully and safely in all aspects of swim activities.

This position leads some activities for their group and travels with their group to activities led by Specialists where this position assists and participates.

Soccer Coaches lead and actively engage in a safe, organized, meaningful, enriching, and fun soccer program for groups of campers primarily ages 6-13. The program should focus on skills for soccer, athletics and for life, such as teamwork, healthy competition, being active and healthy, and having fun.
Additional working weeks and hours in the summer can be contracted. This is a seasonal position.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Training/certification and/or experience in the sport.
- Demonstrated experience playing and coaching the sport and/or working with and leading children preferably in the sport.
- Desire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage campers and work with other staff in a cooperative, team-oriented camp atmosphere.
- Knowledge and skills in the sport and the ability to teach these skills to campers and staff.

Candidates must be available to work the full 2 week basketball program M-F June 8-18th.
Basketball Coaching Staff are active, energetic, creative, and caring, and enjoys working with children in a team atmosphere with other coaches and staff. Basketball Coaches lead and actively engage in a safe, organized, meaningful, enriching, and fun basketball program for groups of campers primarily ages 6-13. The program should focus on skills for basketball, athletics and for life, such as teamwork, healthy competition, being active and healthy, and having fun.

- Conduct and ensure regular cleaning and checks of spaces and equipment are being performed by group staff according to health and safety protocols.
- Participate in and assist in running camp events and initiatives.
- Communicate regularly with the direct supervisor regarding concerns, updates, challenges, and successes.
- Communicate with parents about their child when necessary and appropriate.
