Lower Camp
Tailor made for younger children, campers participate in a diverse range of fun activities, led by their caring counselors, and always in a safe environment. Whether they’re enjoying the creative experimentation of arts and crafts, the coordination-building skills of sports, or a harmonious singalong to camp songs, the children’s days are full of fun and excitement.
Special Activities Just for Lower Camp
Lower Camp campers also enjoy special activities developed just for them:
Age-appropriate activities designed to encourage discovery, creativity, and teamwork, including dance and movement, clay play, and nature exploration.
Daily Red Cross swim instruction by our certified staff for all Day Camp campers. Daily free swim for most full-day campers.
Free play time in our Imagination Station and natural playground to develop social and problem-solving skills while having fun.
Special facilities just right for our smaller campers, such as a shallow pool that is perfect for beginner swimmers and welcoming group rooms equipped with child-size furniture and bathrooms.
Special events and theme days, such as superhero day, a carnival afternoon and a pool scavenger hunt, which build bonding and camp spirit.
Lower Camp Program Options
We offer three program options for our younger campers. Each of our programs provides a well-organized, creative experience through a variety of activities that stimulate and nurture campers in these age groups. Children must be fully toilet trained in order to attend camp. Choose the program that best suits your camper and schedule.
We strive to have a balance of boys and girls in our groups. This impacts the number of spaces available for a given gender in each age group.
Meet our Lower Camp Staff
Mary Ann Wilson Lower Camp Director 14 Years at Fessenden
2026 will be Mary Ann’s first year as the lower camp director and 14th summer working at the Fessenden Summer Camp. Previously, she has been the counselor for the half day program. During the school year, Mary Ann works as a lead preschool teacher and assistant director at Hills & Falls preschool in Newton. She has over 30 years of teaching experience!

Ben Group Counselor 13 Years at Fessenden
Ben was a camper for 8 years and a CIT at Fessenden Summer Camps. This is Ben’s 4th year on staff. For the past 3 years he was a Lower Camp counselor, and is looking forward to trying out Middle Camp this summer! Ben is currently a student at Southern Methodist University. He loves to play sports and hang out with his friends.

Liz Group Counselor 5 Years at Fessenden
2025 will be Liz’s 5th summer as a counselor at Fessenden! Growing up, Liz played many sports including tennis, soccer, baseball, and a few more! She broke a school record of 20 aces in a row in a volleyball game. At graduation she was awarded the Female Phoenix Athlete of the Year award. She is always down to talk sports with the campers.

Playing tennis and football. I also help out "The Singing Grandpops" at their practices and concerts.A fun fact about me is..
I played baseball from ages 4-16. I was always the only girl on my team.-
