Upper Camp
As campers get older at Fessenden, the program adapts to meet their social and developmental needs. They are able to participate in new activities and events, and they begin to build deeper friendships with campers in their group. In order to help foster their growing independence, Upper Campers have a variety of activities. They spend more time doing what they love, and they can explore new and exciting activities they haven’t tried before.
Of course, their counselors are there every step of the way, supporting and encouraging them in activities and helping to form a strong, safe group dynamic where each child feels connected to his or her peers.
Upper Camp campers have privileges and activities all their own
Weekly choice period allows campers to choose their own adventures.
Campers have a diverse schedule of activities each week.
Scheduled unstructured group activities create the perfect opportunity for age appropriate social exploration.
Group challenges bring each group together and they have fun with other Upper Camp groups in a spirit of competition and teamwork.
Meet Our Upper Camp Staff
Sophie Perez Upper Camp Director 1 Years at Fessenden
Sophie joins the Fessenden team this year as Upper Camp Director. With eight years of experience working at summer camps, Sophie is deeply passionate about creating joyful, meaningful experiences for every camper. Her goal to create a space for all campers to feel welcomed and supported drives her passion for camp.
During the school year, Sophie is a fourth-grade teacher in Stoughton, MA. Outside the classroom and camp, she is an avid runner who regularly competes in races around Boston. She has a true love for the city and can often be found exploring local art museums, trying new coffee shops, and discovering restaurants all over Boston. Sophie is thrilled to start her journey at Fessenden and is excited for a summer filled with connection, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Lula Butler Library Specialist 4 Years at Fessenden
This will be Lula’s fourth year on staff and her first summer as our Library Specialist. In the past, Lula was a group counselor for two years an Teen Trip Counselor for a year. Lula graduated from Warren Wilson College in 2023 with a bachelors degree in Expressive Arts Therapy. During the school year Lula works as an after school teacher at a local school in Newton. In her free time she enjoys knitting, reading, drawing, going for walks, and spending time with friends.
