Coding Camp
Coding teaches valuable skills for any future career and also builds skills for school and life. It’s an excellent way to learn soft skills, like creativity, confidence, and communication, that are hugely important for kids to thrive in the future. Fessenden Summer Camps has partnered with iCode Wellesley to offer several age-appropriate Coding Camp experiences focused on a variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) related topics. Campers will spend half a day at Coding Camp and the other half of the day enjoying traditional Day Camp activities, including free swim.

- Description: Campers are introduced to coding with Python, an easy, versatile readable language. It is used in a variety of industries and in a lot of applications. Students will learn Python concepts and syntax. Campers will learn the language using simple games like space invaders, snake, cookie clicker, hang man, etc. Concepts will be reinforced as they implement these games in Python.

- Description: In this camp, the campers will be introduced to coding using Minecraft (an extremely popular creative world-building platform) by Microsoft. This is a platform where engineers and artists can show their creativity. Campers explore art and architecture and plan to create basic and complex designs. Campers will learn to explore the world by walking, swimming and flying! They will build the world, starting with basic structures, all the way to the most complex designs. They will also learn about materials starting with simple to compound metals. Campers will build different types of worlds and work as a team in a shared world.

For younger campers who are fascinated by robotics, we introduce a variety of Robots that allows them to explore robotic themes, create scenes and stories, explore topics and present their findings with their team. Campers will do simple and intermediate builds while also preparing presentations similar to competitions. Campers will build multiple robots throughout the week, race cars, and compete in other team events!

- Description: Using MIT’s Scratch programming Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Campers learn the problem-solving process that includes a number of characteristics and dispositions. Campers will be able to create simple and complex animations. This teaches the students logical thinking, the ability to break a problem down into smaller steps and to program it in blocks. Campers learn to create games and advanced applications using the Scratch programming language. They’ll integrate functions, custom code blocks, and physical components into their projects while also gaining other important skills like flowcharting, and principles of electrical engineering.
