Coding Camp
Coding teaches valuable skills for any future career and also builds skills for school and life. It’s an excellent way to learn soft skills, like creativity, confidence, and communication, that are hugely important for kids to thrive in the future. Fessenden Summer Camps has partnered with iCode Wellesley to offer several age-appropriate Coding Camp experiences focused on a variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) related topics. Campers will spend half a day at Coding Camp and the other half of the day enjoying traditional Day Camp activities, including free swim.

- Description: Almost all of our interactions nowadays are with websites in some form. This Camp will teach campers how to develop a fully functional website with the use of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Bootstraps. They will also learn the importance of proper research and design thinking, and visual prototyping. With a firm grounding in how to construct a good web page with content, images, lists, tables, menus and interactive elements, students will bring all of these skills to bear on a website of their own interest.

- Description: Roblox is one of the most popular online game platforms to play and create one’s own games. The games are easy to interact with, even for young children. In this course campers will be introduced to concepts around game construction, with an introduction to Roblox Studio, where they can generate a random world or build on pre-fabricated themes, templates and storylines. In this course, Campers will also learn about Digital Citizenship, Internet Security, and other critical concepts and develop habits and practices for safe online interactions with others.

- Description: This is the perfect camp for budding entrepreneurs. Campers will learn how to think like a creative entrepreneur and compete in a crowded marketplace with unique solutions to tomorrow’s problems. Working with professional tools will give campers a competitive edge and help them learn what it takes to take an idea to market. Campers will collaborate with other campers in completing group and individual projects. These entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to build a startup with their friends, create sophisticated websites, develop marketing plans, and 3D print prototypes. At the end of this busy week, these new start-ups will pitch their projects to a panel of iCode’s top sharks and learn how to negotiate funding!

- Description: Campers will go beyond playing games, and get a behind-the-scenes experience, learning the art and science of game development. With hands-on projects, students will be exposed to game creation tools. They will create Asteroids,Pong and other games. Campers will also learn techniques from the ground to create their own movies using various mediums like clay, Lego blocks, LEGO Minifigures, pipe cleaners, paper cut outs, etc.

- Description: Using MIT’s Scratch programming Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Campers learn the problem-solving process that includes a number of characteristics and dispositions. Campers will be able to create simple and complex animations. This teaches the students logical thinking, the ability to break a problem down into smaller steps and to program it in blocks. Campers learn to create games and advanced applications using the Scratch programming language. They’ll integrate functions, custom code blocks, and physical components into their projects while also gaining other important skills like flowcharting, and principles of electrical engineering.
